After more than 20 years of Army service, Benjamin Skala transitioned from active duty in April 2024 and began his civilian career with the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHUAPL) as an Assistant Program Manager.
As Benjamin navigated the transition from military service to a civilian career, FourBlock provided the tools, guidance, and community needed to translate his experience and leadership into a new professional chapter.
“FourBlock played an instrumental role in preparing me for a civilian career during the transition from active duty,” Benjamin shared. “I was helped and coached on everything from perfecting my resume, to an elevator pitch, interview skills and pitfalls, and how to highlight what I can bring to my next career.”
Through the Veteran Career Readiness Program, Virtual Industry Pathways Events, and FourBlock community connections, Benjamin built the confidence and network needed to move forward.
His advice for the next generation of veterans?
“Go through the FourBlock class, network as much as possible, and don't be shy to reach out to folks through LinkedIn. Keep building your network and learn from those who went through the transition before you.”
Benjamin’s story reflects the power of preparation, community, and connection — proving that the skills developed through military service are valuable assets in the civilian workforce.
